With restrictions easing all over the UK, many of us are starting to find more and more moments of normality. With weddings back on and families holidaying at home and abroad, it’s becoming easier to create those unique moments that make life so special. We asked some of our favourite influencers and bloggers to share their favourite holiday snaps with us from the last few years and explain why these photos hold such special moments for them.

What makes a great holiday photo?

What makes a great holiday photo will differ from one person to the next. Some of us prefer photos of landscapes so we can remember the exact feelings we felt when we first saw them. For others, it’s photos of their kids, with huge smiles plastered across their faces, enjoying their very first time at the beach or paddling in the sea.

Let’s take a look at what makes a great holiday photo for some of the influencers and bloggers who shared theirs with us.

A Cornwall staycation break

Ben, a DIY blogger from Wood Create, was glad to have recently taken the kids away to Cornwall for their first holiday in a while.

“This picture captured our holiday in Cornwall this year perfectly.  We spent the day at Crantock Beach near Newquay and had the most amazing day. We did some bodyboarding in the waves, explored the rocky coastline, watched crabs and fish dance around in the rock pools and enjoyed a picnic overlooking the golden sandy beach whilst the kids played on the sand dunes.

“The weather was sunny with a nice cooling sea breeze, which really tied everything together. We managed to fit so many fun activities into the day. We finished it off with a nice cool drink watching the tide come in and the sun set over the horizon. Perfection!”

A magical time in Disneyland Paris

Amy from Everything Mummy shared with us this very special moment after she had saved and saved so she could take her girls on a magical trip to Disneyland Paris.

“Our magical time in France at Disneyland, I surprised the girls with this day. They had absolutely no idea! It was magical from start to finish. I was a single mum for years and I never thought I would have the opportunity to do this with my girls but decided to just go for it and it was incredible.”

A wedding anniversary in Las Vegas

Sally from Life Loving fondly remembers her first wedding anniversary in Las Vegas.

“This photo was taken in Las Vegas. My husband and I visited for our first wedding anniversary. We booked a zip lining experience in Boulder City. Everything about the experience was so special, from the hike up to the zip lining platform to the views across the canyon and even more so because I shared the memories with my husband.

“It was probably one of the most exciting and exhilarating experiences we've ever done and always brings a smile to our faces when we talk about it or look back through these photos.”

The breathtaking sight of the Taj Mahal

Anjum from Fully Money shared with us this breathtaking shot of the Taj Mahal. Little did she know that this holiday would be her last for a while thanks to the pandemic.

“This is a picture from my last holiday before the COVID Pandemic hit and shook the world. I last went on holiday in December 2019. Me, my husband, and our friends went to beautiful India. I have been a number of times but never managed to experience this breathtaking wonder of the world. However, I am so glad I waited until my trip in 2019 to experience it for the first time with my husband by my side.

“It really was one of those jaw-dropping moments as the sheer beauty of the Taj Mahal is truly something else. Something I will never forget. We went at sunrise, so the morning rays made it glisten. It was just stunning. I often think back to this last trip as one thing this pandemic has taught me is never to take anything for granted. I’m grateful to have had this amazing experience on my last holiday. I didn’t know it was my last holiday for a while at the time, but I certainly won’t take travelling for granted ever again.”

Kayaking in Cornwall

Victoria, a travel blogger from travelvixta.com shared this gorgeous snap of her and her son kayaking in Cornwall. Doesn’t it look like they’re somewhere in the Mediterranean? Victoria explains why this shot means so much to her.

“This was on our recent trip to Cornwall and we went kayaking on these stand-up paddleboards that convert to kayaks with a seat attachment.  I haven't felt this happy in such a long time and felt so free and relaxed out on the sea. It was the most fun I've had in ages and I can't wait to go back to do it again.

“Although my son Reuben doesn't look as happy as me in this photo, he really was!  We took our kids out with us, sat on the front of the boards, and they loved being out at sea too.  Amazing family time trying something new and discovering a new passion in a beautiful location.”

Sharing childhood memories with our own children

Karen from The 3 am Diary shared this gorgeous snap of her little one Lily at Durdle Door. Karen explained to us how special it was to share her very favourite childhood memories with her own children.

“This is one of my favourite photos taken at Durdle Door in Dorset. I loved visiting there as a kid with my parents and so I was so excited to be able to take my daughter last year in October. It is such a stunning place all year round, but off-season I find it so peaceful, from enjoying the endless views to listening to the waves splashing at the shore.

Looking at this photo, it reminds me of adventures with my little girl, getting out and exploring this beautiful world. I know it sounds cheesy, but I often feel guilty being a working mum. But it is adventures like those and reminders of making memories like these that make it all worthwhile and remind me how lucky I am to be able to explore.”

Treasured moments on a city break to Berlin

Emma from Bee Money Savvy shared this lovely picture taken by her Dad outside the Olympic Stadium in Berlin. Emma explains why this snap is such a treasured memory.

“My favourite holiday photo is a picture my dad took of me standing outside the Berlin Olympic Stadium. It was a last-minute holiday that I’d won in an online competition and I was so happy to have the opportunity to treat my dad to a city break.

“There’s so much to do and see in Berlin. It’s remained my favourite city years later. Although we were only there for a few days, we managed to visit Berlin Olympic Stadium, Brandenburg Gate, the Holocaust Memorial, the Reichstag Building, Berlin Zoo and go on a walking tour of the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp.

My dad was a brilliant travel companion, planning out our days with the best tourist sights and food spots. We had the best time and it’s a memory with my dad that I’ll treasure forever.”

The photo that takes me straight back...

Hayley from Devon Mama shared this gorgeous picture of her eldest who is now five. A photo that transports her straight back to the days of squishy toddler cuddles, endless nappy changes and that unique, fleeting feeling of utter bewilderment at being a first time Mum.

“We've been to this beach every year since having children. It has the best sunsets and holds the best memories. This photo takes me straight back to the toddler days that feel so long ago now. He'd insist on taking diggers everywhere and we spent the entire time bundled up in hats and coats, windswept but happy. Just looking at it makes me smile because it sums the week up so perfectly. I couldn't have planned it better if I'd tried!
